We won!

One last piece of great news for Stream Walk before the end of 2023…we won the Canterbury Climate Action Partnership (CCAP) Annual Climate Action Awards 2023 for community action. So congratulations to everyone involved and to all of our volunteers for their efforts over the last year.

Here is an extract from our application:

Stream Walk Community Garden is a thriving, community growing space in the heart of Whitstable… Since the pandemic, SWCG has doubled-down on its mission to focus on sustainable horticulture and climate mitigation as core principles. This has captured the imagination of many of its volunteers and visitors and, as a result, the garden has become a thriving hub for cross-sector collaborations in growing as a form of climate action. The twin goals of carbon reduction and increasing biodiversity have been central to the charity’s ambition to reach as many community members as possible, in turn furthering our over-arching mission to enhance wellbeing through gardening. We believe our collective efforts and their outcomes deserve a climate award.”

The awards came in a ceremony at the end of the Annual Climate Action Festival (coinciding with the COP 28 climate summit in Dubai) in Canterbury on December 9th. The press release with details of all the winners is here .

Vee Wheatley, our chair, said: “It was great to get this award in recognition of the work that Stream Walk is doing on climate action and biodiversity in Whitstable out into the wider Canterbury district”.

We also had a small stall at the event where we showed a short video LINK of our work and got to speak a number of councillors about our aims for the garden over the coming year and met representatives from other local projects that we hope to collaborate with in the future.
