It’s Wild about Whitstable Week!

Starting on Monday August 7th, Whitstable’s CT5 Forum ECO Group are running the second annual Wild About Whitstable Week with a range of family-friendly, nature-based activities planned across the town.

Stream Walk Community Garden will be hosting a bunch of events culminating in another family fun day on Saturday August 12th. Here’s a list of what we have planned:

  • Tuesday 8th August 10.30am: Bio Blitz! Join members of the Kent Field Club, Butterfly Conservation and Stream Walk community garden staff and volunteers for a morning’s BioBlitz – an event to record as many native plants, insects, and other animals as possible during the morning. FREE

  • Wednesday 9th August 10.30-12 noon: Neurodiverse family sessions. Support group for families whose children are Autistic, Dyspraxic, have ADHD or SPD etc – with or without diagnosis. FREE

  • Thursday 10th August, 3-4pm: Herbal medicine walk. Take your first steps in discovering the potency and the potential of the remedies literally growing at our feet with Herbalist Belinda Murray. FREE (but donations welcome)

  • Friday 11th August 5-6pm Forest Gardening. How to encourage wildlife and grow perennial food? Jo Barker from Future Food Forests will share this wonderful Nature based, chemical free, ancient food growing technique. We will learn about the concept of Forest gardening, forage, and the basics of designing this ecological system through Permaculture Design.. Learn about perennial plants, tips for attracting wildlife in the garden and how to eat almost everything! This will be a talk, a walk and a bit interactive. Suitable for older children and everyone. Donations welcome £5 – £15

  • Saturday 12th August 9.30-12.30: Wild About Whitstable Family Event. Nature treasure hunts; pond dipping, bug hunts, mud kitchen and arts and crafts + homemade cake and refreshments. £3 per person (concessions available).
